Lay Summary
This project will establish best measurement practices for wastewater testing and surveillance using a multidisciplinary, consensus approach. We will focus on reporting wastewater metrics, including smoothing, outlier detection, outbreak detection, growth parameters, and short-term projections, to inform questions such as do the data and reports represent the amount and trend of viral levels in the community? We will also focus on understanding the relationship between wastewater recovery and clinical cases, hospitalization, and death, and environmental parameters of SARS-CoV-2 viral load, including sensitivity, specificity, and the positive predictive value of new outbreaks, to help model or support models for policy evaluation and projections.
